Still Building Model Kits?
Plastic Model Kits were certainly a lot more popular back in the day and this could be down to a number of different reasons.
The Putting Together
Although all of the kits actually comer with very clear instructions, many people just cannot be bothered to take the time and effort to work at putting these together. Usually the models have to be glued together with a plastic solvent based adhesive. Of course for the people that actually do this thing a lot they tend to use epoxy glue as it works better.
One of the brilliant reasons that people will sit down on a horrible winters evening and build one of these is because they are worth doing. Some of the really big model kits do take a lot of skill to put together, this is fact. Another bonus is that if you get one of the easier kits you can sit down with yoru children and spend a bit of time building one with them. There are now newer versions of many of the models that are easier to build, these are really only meant for kids.
RC
So many kids nowadays are not interested in spending hours on building Airfix Aircraft and want to get playing with the toy straight away. This is why things such as RC Tanks have been introduced as the kids can simply rip open the packaging, put in the batteries and drive it around the living room to their hearts content.
Lasting Appeal
I do think that when it comes to time spent on the project you are better off getting one of those plastic model kits and the simple reason for this is that you achieve something once you have built and painted it making it such a rewarding activity. It would seem that after just a few hours, the RC is left gathering dust.
